Story
I’m running Hackney Half Marathon, while representing Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), because suicide prevention is a cause I’m deeply passionate about.
I’ve struggled with suicidal ideation for many years of my life, and there have been many occasions where I felt ashamed about it so I decided to keep it to myself. I appreciate that CALM are making conversations about mental health less taboo. I hope to not only raise funds so they can continue their amazing work, but I also hope to raise awareness of the need for mental health support.
Running has been something that has contributed to the betterment of my mental health, so it brings me joy to have the opportunity to run a half marathon for a great cause. By the time I’ve run the Hackney half, I would be 3 years postpartum from my first pregnancy. During this pregnancy, my mental health declined significantly, so running a half marathon on team CALM will be a testament to my victory over depression!
1 in 4 people have thought about suicide in their lifetime, so there’s a chance we’ve all met someone who has had suicidal thoughts. Maybe you currently know someone who’s struggling mentally, and they feel that suicide is their only option.
£12.20 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call. Please donate whatever you can, every donation is contributing to a much needed cause.
