Yorkshire Three Peaks · 5 July 2025

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

Myself, James, Keeley, Gary and Sam will be taking on the Yorkshire three peaks on the 5th July 2025 to raise awareness and money for The UK sepsis trust. As some of you may already know I was admitted to hospital back in December 2024 due to sepsis, this was the most terrifying time of my life not knowing what the outcome would be and if I would make it back home. However I was very lucky, I went to the GP with what I thought was mastitis and thankfully my GP spotted the signs at my appt, and sent me straight to the hospital for further tests and treatment. Now I'm lucky enough to be home with my family fit and well to live life. However not everyone is that lucky.

5 people loose their life to sepsis every hour, that's 48,000 lives taken in the UK every year. 245,000 battle sepsis every year in the UK. UKST 's mission is to improve sepsis outcomes by educating healthcare professionals and empowering the public to Just Ask: Could it be Sepsis?. UKST aims to end preventable deaths and improve outcomes for sepsis survivors, striving to raise public awareness and working to support anyone affected by this devastating condition.

It never crossed my mind at the time that it could be sepsis as I stupidly thought it wasn't something that would never happen to me. So if you take anything away from this post, please takeaway the signs and symptoms and share them with your loved ones !

Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis.

It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.

It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
