I’m Kes and I joined Folkestone rowing club in 2023, before the south coast championships. I’ve always had a love of the sea, despite overcoming a fear of water.

I’d tried several different rowing clubs over the years but never felt more at home than at Folkestone.

Members of the club fully support me in my rowing journey with empathy and understanding, know that I am type 1 diabetic and are all round amazing individuals - so it’s a real honour to row with them to raise funds for JDRF (breakthrough type 1) by rowing the distance of the English Channel from Folkestone to France on 16th November 2024.

Living with type 1 diabetes doesn’t need to prevent us from doing the things we love - that’s what this challenge is about!

Members of the club will all be doing their best to row the entire distance (over 30k) individually.
