Story
I am running the Sheffield 10k in September to support the cardiology departments in Sheffield via the Sheffield Hospitals Charity.
Last year my wife Claire had a CT scan to help find out why she was feeling so rubbish. It showed a mass on her heart, which turned out to be a myxoma.
Claire was admitted to the Northern General hospital in May and had open heart surgery on May 9th. I have never been more terrified than I was during this time.
Like the amazing, strong person she is, she was discharged from hospital on May 13th and hasn't looked back. She has come off most of her medication and found a new zest for life which includes beating me at badminton, hiking, running and the gym.
The photos I've uploaded show how far she has come. From sitting on our stairs struggling to get her shoes on when first out of hospital, to running on the canal and that beautiful smile which stole my heart.
I will be forever grateful to all the staff at the Northern General hospital for looking after my wife so well, and saving her life by removing the tumour.
Sheffield Hospitals Charity help Sheffield’s hospitals, community teams and health and social care services to cover costs their NHS budgets can’t.
They fund support for patients and staff, life-changing research and more, so that they can enhance care from birth to the end of life and everything in between.
Somewhere along the line, their funding is likely to have helped you or someone you love. I learnt about this charity when going on a hospital perambulation with Claire and we signed up on the spot to make a monthly donation.
I want to do something more, hence signing up for the 10k.
I know money is so tight at the moment, but this is a truly wonderful charity and I would be grateful if you could spare a little to sponsor this soppy gal who is running for her wife.
I love you, Claire ❤️
Thank you!
