Stevenage Marathon · 20 October 2024

Offering people with disabilities who have non ADUK assistance dogs the opportunity to gain peace of mind by having their assistance dog independently assessed.

Story

Well here I am, training for my 3rd marathon after saying I'd never do another (twice!). I must be mad! But this time it's for a great cause!

A couple of years after we moved to Walkern, we saw a marathon taking place in Stevenage and I joked that it would be handy if I ever became a runner. At that point I hadn't ever run any real distance and never thought I would! I never saw the marathon taking place again.

Fast forward 10 years and I've 'become a runner'. I don't really know how it happened, but I caught the bug. I've since found out that the Stevenage marathon only happens every 10yrs and 2024 is a marathon year. And I have a friend that runs a charity that would really benefit from some fundraising. So on 20th October, I will be running my 3rd (and final!) marathon.

The charity I am supporting is the Assistance Dog Assessment Association (ADAA). Our great friend Selina Valentine is a member of the board and passionate about the amazing support assistance dogs give having trained her own assistance dogs and supported others as a qualified trainer. The ADAA aims to help those with self trained or non-ADUK trained dogs get full public access through offering independent assessments and support.

I would massively appreciate any donations you are able to make to this amazing cause, and it will keep my legs going over the hellish final miles knowing that I am not just doing this one out of pure stupidity!
