Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Dementia comes in many forms and affects individuals in different ways. One common theme, is that the person you know, love and respect, slowly dies in front of your very eyes.

A difficult thing to watch taking place to your Dad, especially when they do not remember their own family members. Thankfully for the time being he still appears to know me !

I'd like to raise some money for the support that goes on in the background. The heroes that pick up the pieces, going generally unnoticed and without taking any thanks. Those who have found their vocation in life by helping and caring for others.

The Dorset NHS Urgent Community Response team aim to deal with urgent but non emergency medical incidents within 2 hours. The aim is to relieve the pressure on the ambulance service, allowing them to focus response on life threatening/changing incidents.

My Dad has benefitted from this service after having some falls at home, banging his head and not being able to get up again. Made all the worse by his dementia.

If you don't know my parents, Dad is a big guy and my Mum is petite. She can't move him if he falls over.

The UCR came out picked him up, patched up wounds and completed the basic health checks which were all subsequently followed up.

I would like to try and raise a donation to buy some basic first aid kit or contribute to buying more expensive components like defibrillator batteries and pads.

Having worked in the emergency services for over 30 years, I know how tight finances are and how every little bit helps, especially if funds are donated directly to the specific Unit.

Services like this are very important especially in more rural areas providing a vital link to medical care without draining critical emergency resources and need support so others can continue benefitting from the care provided.

Thanks for reading Kev.
