Kevin's fundraiser for Fanconi Hope

Kevin Mansell is raising money for Fanconi Hope
In memory of Toby Carr

Kayaking and walking

Fanconi Hope is a charity set up to sponsor research and support those affected by the rare genetic disorder Fanconi Anaemia that affects children and adults, leading to bone marrow failure and bone marrow transplantation, with very high risk of leukaemia and head and neck cancers.

Story

I start my 70th year this summer and in a beautiful coincidence there are 70 counties in England and Wales. So in 70 days over the start of my 70th year I plan to walk to the highest point and kayak 10 nautical miles in each county. I start on the 6th July outside Toby's house in Flushing in Cornwall and finish on top of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) on the 14th September.

Toby Carr died in January 2022 as a result of Fanconi Anaemia a rare, life-limiting genetic disorder. He had started to paddle the Shipping Forecast areas, which he sadly didn't complete. Katie, his sister, stepped in, learnt to paddle, completed the journey and wrote the book "Moderate Becoming Good Later", using her own experiences and Toby's notes and videos.

Toby and Katie are our nephew and niece, so please support the charity, which supported Toby.

I am also raising funds for Dementia Jersey as they supported my parents, in the later years of their lives.

The photograph is Toby sea kayaking off the west coast of Greenland in the summer of 2015. Three very memorable weeks.
