Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've recently experienced serious eye problems in the form of Myopic Macular Degeneration and more recently, a detached retina.
Without the initial efforts of my optician and, subsequently, the staff at the eye clinics at my local hospital in Stratford upon Avon and at UHCW, Coventry, there would have been a strong chance of losing the sight in my left eye. I'm eternally grateful to the treatments I've had that have saved my sight.
For many years, I've wanted to climb Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. I had originally planned to do this earlier this year but my detached retina forced me to postpone until October. As it's quite a challenge, it feels appropropriate to try and raise some money and I've chosen the Macular Society; both for their research into macular disease and for their tireless work in supporting those with far more significant eye conditions than me.
Climbing Kilimanjaro will be tough but nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by people who've suffered loss of sight due to macular disease.
If you're able to support my climb by giving a donation, no matter how small, then you can be assured that the money raised will be going to a hugely worthy cause.
