Story

"Campden Home Nursing is an independent local charity based in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, founded in 1990.

We give seamless support; a Serious Illness Support, for those living with a life limiting illness; Hospice Care at Home, for patients who choose to be nursed at home at the end of their lives; and Bereavement Services for bereaved children and adults. All are free of charge."

When Dad was in his final months of life, he knew that he wanted to spend it at home. He enjoyed watching the birds from his favourite chair and having his family around him. Without the support of the Campden Home Nursing team, this would have been so hard. The district nurse team put us in touch with them and they were such a beacon of light and support.

The team of friendly nurses made us feel supported, understood and cared for. Crucially, they stayed up with Dad through the night so that Mum could sleep, knowing that they would wake her if needed.

They made those final days and nights manageable and without them, we don't know whether Dad would have been able to stay at home. He died peacefully and for that we are eternally grateful.

We could not believe that this incredible team of nurses provided this care purely from contributions and the endless capacity for compassion that enables them to volunteer their time. We knew we wanted to raise money for them and it seemed fitting to recreate a hike that Dad did when he was in the Scouts. The Lyke Wake Walk is a 42 mile hike within 24 hours across the North York Moors.

Dad was always brave and resilient, even in those final days, so hopefully we can take that with us on the hike and raise some funds for this amazing charity, so that they can provide care for other families like ours.

Thank you so much for reading - and potentially donating!
