In December 2026, I will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Duration Controlling a Table Tennis Ball with a Bat, while raising funds and awareness for Parkinson’s UK.
This challenge holds special significance for me. My first attempt took place in February 2022 during my year as Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon. Although I fell short of the record on that occasion, the experience demonstrated the incredible levels of concentration, determination, and endurance required to take on such a challenge.
Nearly five years later, I am ready to return stronger, better prepared, and more determined than ever to achieve a new world record.
Beyond the record itself, this attempt is about making a positive difference. By supporting Parkinson’s UK, I hope to raise vital funds and awareness for those living with Parkinson’s and to highlight the important role that sport and physical activity can play in improving wellbeing and bringing communities together.
As a 63-year-old table tennis enthusiast, community leader, and advocate for the sport, I want to show that age should never be a barrier to setting ambitious goals and inspiring others.
I look forward to sharing my journey over the coming months and would greatly appreciate the support of the table tennis community, local businesses, sponsors, friends, and supporters as we work together to make history and support a truly worthy cause.
