From the Sahara to Sri Lanka: My Next 100km Challenge

Kevin Williams is raising money for Nugent Care 2019
Traverse the rugged ridge lines and conquer the thick rainforests, sweeping plains and colonial-era tea plantations of Sri Lanka. Every step helps raise vital funds to bring hope and brighter futures to the people Nugent supports.

Story

In 2023, I completed a 100km trek across the Sahara Desert. It pushed me to my limits - but it also showed me what’s possible when you have purpose behind every step.

Now, I’m taking on an even tougher challenge.

In early 2027, I’ll be taking on the Sri Lanka Highland Challenge - a demanding 100km trek through some of the country’s most remote and mountainous terrain. The trek will include more than 3000 metres of elevation and 2400 metres of descent, over 5 days.

This isn’t a leisurely walk. It’s long, hot, humid days of steep climbs, punishing descents, and sustained endurance across challenging landscapes. But it pales in comparison to the journeys faced by the people we support every day at Nugent.

Working with Nugent, I see first-hand the life-changing impact that the right care, support, and opportunity can have on children, young people, and adults across our services. This challenge is my way of going beyond the day job - pushing myself physically and mentally to raise vital funds that will directly support Nugent’s work.

Every mile I walk is for those who don’t get to choose their challenges.

If you’re able to support, I’d be incredibly grateful. Your donation will help Nugent continue to provide care, protection, and opportunity to those who need it most.

Let's do this! 💪

About Nugent

Nugent are a not-for-profit organisation based in Liverpool, established since 1881. We have a proven history of adapting what we do to meet the needs of the communities we serve. As a leading voice in the care sector, we look to improve health, opportunity, quality of life, and levels of achievement, whilst reducing poverty and increasing safety for all.

We operate across the North West, predominantly in the Liverpool City region, offering a diverse range of support for adults and children. Our children’s provisions include residential homes, a secure facility, a step-down home and SEMH School. Our adult’s provisions include dispersed homelessness accommodation, floating support provided in the community and supported living provided at home. We also provide adult residential homes including a specialist acquired brain injury, a home for those living with dementia, and a home supporting Mental Health needs. We also offer adoption support services working in partnership with local authorities across the UK.

To reach communities beyond these provisions we have established an initiative called Our Future Now, which actively engages in a range of fundraising and community-based activities. These efforts support wider unmet needs across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.
