Story
Many people live with chronic kidney disease, and for some this can lead to kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant. We raise funds to support research into kidney disease, transplantation and dialysis, and to enhance facilities and patient amenities for renal patients at MRI, NCA, RMCH and satellite dialysis units.
As a family, we have seen first-hand the extraordinary work carried out by the Renal Transplant Department at Manchester Royal Infirmary. In September 1995, our mum, Caron, was given the precious gift of a kidney transplant — a moment that changed all of our lives forever.
For me, my sister and my dad, this meant more time, more memories, and the chance to grow together as a family. It meant watching our mum regain her strength, share in life’s milestones, and simply be there — something that can never be taken for granted.
This year, my parents will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary, and my mum will reach her 31st transplant anniversary.
These moments are only possible because of the brave and compassionate decision made by an organ donor and their family at a time of immense loss. Their selflessness gave our family hope, time and a future — a gift for which we will be forever grateful.
