Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have chosen this charity as it is very personal to a good friend of mine and his wife.
CDH, congenital diaphragmatic hernia It's essentially a birth defect that happens during pregnancy where the baby’s diaphragm doesn't develop properly. This leaves a hole in the diaphragm which means during development anything that should be in the stomach is allowed to move up through the hole into the chest.
When my friends discovered their baby had this 20 weeks into the pregnancy their delight turned to turmoil about what lay ahead for them and their little baby. They went to Addenbrookes Hospital for tests where the CDH was confirmed. Further tests revealed it was about as serious as it could get and the doctors gave their daughter a 5% chance of survival.
The last 20 weeks pregnancy were rough with weekly trips to Addenbrookes, and when their was born she was put into intensive care with her first surgery at just 4 days old to fix the problem . She died twice on the operating table but made it through. She was in intensive care for 16 weeks after. They got her home and it's been a battle ever since however she is 9 now and takes everything in her stride.
The charity were on hand to offer support both financially which they were fortunate not to need but also emotionally and that was of great comfort and help to my friend and his wife.
If you feel you are able to donate, however small the amount that would be great and I thank you for this.
