Kieran's London Marathon fundraiser for Mental Health Research UK

Kieran Wagstaff is raising money for Mental Health Research UK

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

Mental Health Research UK: The first UK charity dedicated to raising funds for research into mental illnesses, their causes and cures.

Story

This year, I’m running the London Marathon in support of Mental Health Research UK (MHRUK) — a charity I believe in because mental health is still far too often misunderstood, judged, or quietly ignored. MHRUK’s direct, targeted approach to researching schizophrenia and psychosis is the reason I chose them, and why this run means so much to me.

Schizophrenia and psychotic illnesses have played a major role in my own life and the lives of people close to me. A member of my family has been living with psychosis since 2019, and since then I’ve seen first-hand how complex, challenging, and isolating this condition can be — not just for the individual, but for everyone around them. A close friend of mine has also had a family member sectioned multiple times due to severe schizophrenia and although I haven’t met her, I’ve seen the impact it has had on my friend and their relationship, which has sadly deteriorated because of the illness.

These experiences have shown me how urgently we need better understanding, better treatments, and better support for people living with psychosis and related conditions. Too many families are left struggling alone, and too many lives are shaped by an illness we still don’t fully understand.

MHRUK invests directly into research that can change that — funding scholarships and studies focused specifically on schizophrenia, psychosis, and related mental health conditions. Research that has the potential to improve outcomes, rebuild relationships, and genuinely transform lives.

By supporting my run, you’re helping push that research forward. You’re helping families like mine. And you’re helping make sure that mental health — especially the parts nobody talks about enough — gets the attention it deserves.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for any support you can give. It truly means more than you know.
