Story

I'm raising money for Nightingale House Hospice in honour of the incredible care they gave my Dad, Brendan Witter, in May–June 2025.

Although Dad spent just over two weeks at the hospice, the level of care he received in that short time was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment they transported him from Countess of Chester Hospital in a private ambulance, right through to his final hours, he was treated with dignity, compassion and kindness.

What stood out just as much was the support they gave to us as a family. Whether it was guidance during his stay or the bereavement support that followed, they were there when we needed them most. Those moments will stay with us forever.

The Challenge

To give something back, my friend Sam Turner and I will be taking on a golf endurance challenge on Tuesday 23rd June 2026 at Farleigh Golf Club.

We’ll be playing from dawn to dusk, nearly 18 hours, aiming to complete as many holes as possible in a single day.

It won’t be easy, but it’s something we love doing. And Dad always told us to do what we love.

We'd love you to donate as much or as little as you can.

Why Your Support Matters

Nightingale House Hospice provide services for individuals and their families living within North East Wales and the border areas who are living with a diagnosis of a progressive and/or life-limiting illness, delivered when possible in the location of their choice and always within the resources available to Nightingale House Hospice.

Hospice services include:

- 30 patients per week accessing their 12-week wellbeing programme

- A 12-bed inpatient unit

- 24/7 advice line

- Spiritual support

- Outpatient clinic

- Specialist pharmacist

- Occupational therapies

- Family support team

- Bereavement support

- Complimentary therapy, creative therapies, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Dad enjoyed an aromatherapy massage that really relaxed him.

Nightingale House Hospice receive only about 16% of funding from the government, meaning the vast majority comes from donations.

We'd love you to donate as much or as little as you can. Did you know:

- £10 helps keep their ambulance on the road for a day, including patient transport. This meant so much to us when Dad was transferred to the hospice, and we could travel with him.

- £20 could fund a 1 hour complementary therapy session: Dad especially loved his aromatherapy massage

- £32 could provide memory boxes for children receiving bereavement support, helping them hold onto special memories

- £60 could cover meals for a patient for an entire day. Even in his final days, Dad still enjoyed small comforts like ice cream.

- £750 could go towards a specialist patient chair, allowing patients to sit comfortably and enjoy the gardens, something Dad really appreciated as he could look out at the beautiful garden and watch the birds come to the feeder

- £2,500 could help fund an adjustable hospital-grade bed, making a huge difference to comfort and dignity.

Please Donate

If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small, it would mean a great deal to us and will directly support families going through incredibly difficult times.

Every pound really does make a difference.

Thank you so much for your support.
