Story
In August 2022 our 7 year-old son Theo was diagnosed with stage 4 Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Theo was immediately admitted to Piam Brown ward in Southampton to begin intensive chemotherapy, and stayed in hospital for many gruelling months.
Theo is now doing very well thanks to the love, care and expertise from all involved in his treatment and it’s time to give back!
I’m walking through fire across hot coals to raise money for Abby’s Heroes, a family support charity based on the ward who made our darkest chapter so much easier to bear - be that with financial advice, practical guidance, emotional support or literally feeding parents who are too worried about their child to think of basic needs for themselves!
About Abby’s Heroes:
Every year, having discovered the news that their child has been diagnosed with cancer, families enter either the Piam Brown Ward for 0-16yr olds, or the TYA Teenage and Young Adults Ward 16-24yrs at UHS University Hospital Southampton.
The whole ethos of Abby's Heroes is to place our arm around the shoulders of these families and support them during this journey. We offer Financial Grants to help with the financial burden of having your child diagnosed, Practical support, Memory Making grants, Welfare Packs, Counselling service for the entire family, as well as two evening meals and a picnic lunch every week. Every single penny is vital to help Abby's Heroes provide these services.
