Story

Please help Macmillan Cancer Support by sponsoring me run the London marathon!

I'm excited (and a little nervous) to be running the London Marathon in April 2025. I am doing it for a cause that holds a special place in me and my families hearts —Macmillan Cancer Support.

Why Macmillan?

Cancer is something that turns lives upside down, and our family felt this deeply when my fiancé's mum, Alison, was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue and neck. The news was devastating, and from that moment on, our lives were forever changed. Alison bravely faced the challenges ahead, including a complex treatment plan that began with surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct her tongue, followed by rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Although the initial surgery was thought to be successful, unforeseen complications required Alison to undergo two more surgeries. This made her road to recovery much longer and more difficult than we had hoped.

Imagine having to learn how to speak and eat all over again and navigate a new normal. The process was incredibly tough for Alison, and it was during this time that Macmillan Cancer Support became an invaluable source of help. They were there every step of the way, offering support, guidance, and comfort when it was most needed.

Why This Marathon Matters

My partner, along with her sister Laura and Alison’s husband Pete, spent countless days and nights at Derby Hospital, supporting Alison through the hardest period of her life. Seeing what Alison went through and hearing Alison speak about the incredible support Macmillan provided inspired me to take on this marathon challenge. It's my way of giving back to a charity that has done so much and means so much to Alison.

With your help, I aim to raise at least £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Every donation, big or small, will go directly to helping families like ours navigate the toughest of times.
