Brighton Half Marathon 2024 · 25 February 2024 ·

Help Stonewall continue our work towards positive change and a world where LGBTQ+ people are free to be themselves by taking part in the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 25th February 2024.

Story

Hello everyone! My name is Kieren Wakley, and I am thrilled to share my personal story with you. On the 25th of February next year, I will be participating in a half marathon to raise funds for Stonewall, an organization dedicated to promoting LGBTQ+ rights and equality. As someone who has never run a half marathon before, this endeavour will undoubtedly be a challenge. However, my determination to support this important cause far outweighs any obstacles that lie ahead.

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have a supportive and accepting environment. However, as I became more aware of the struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community, I realised that not everyone had the same privilege. Learning about Stonewall's mission deeply resonated with me, as their work focuses on empowering individuals and advocating for positive change. I knew I had to get involved and make a difference.

Taking on a half marathon is no small feat. It requires discipline, dedication, and months of training. As someone who has never considered themselves a runner, this decision was both exciting and daunting. However, I firmly believe that stepping outside of our comfort zones is where true growth occurs. By pushing myself physically and mentally, I hope to inspire others to challenge themselves and support causes close to their hearts.

My journey towards the half marathon began with setting realistic goals and creating a training plan. With the help of experienced runners and online resources, I gradually increased my mileage and incorporated strength training exercises into my routine. The process has been filled with ups and downs, but every step forward has brought me closer to my goal.

While completing the half marathon will be a personal achievement, the true purpose lies in raising funds for Stonewall. By supporting this organisation, we can contribute to their ongoing efforts to combat discrimination, provide support networks, and promote equality for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most.

As I lace up my running shoes on the 25th of February next year, I will carry with me the stories and struggles of those who have faced adversity due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. By participating in this half marathon, I hope to raise awareness and funds for Stonewall's vital work. Your support means the world to me and will help create a more inclusive and accepting society for future generations.

Please consider making a donation to support my journey towards equality. Together, we can make a lasting impact!
