Story
After a two year hiatus from running I am coming back with a bang! This year I decided to run the Tely 10 - a 10 mile marathon in St John's Newfoundland, and as extra motivation I am fundraising for the Health Care Foundation's Cardiac Care fund in memory of my late Uncles Dave and Ed.
In the summer of 2020 our family received the news that my mom's youngest brother, my sweet Uncle Dave had died of a heart attack. He had struggled with heart complications in the past, but we all thought we had more time with him. Our family was devastated and amidst a pandemic it was harder than ever to grieve together.
Then in March of 2023, while on vacation in my second home of Toronto, I got the call that my Uncle Ed had passed of a massive heart attack. It was completely unexpected, my Uncle Ed had been in great shape and was eager to step into his new role as a Grandfather.
Sadly, this is a reality that many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians face, as 1 in 3 people in this province will need cardiac care at some point in their lives. With Cardiac Care, needs are often unexpected and immediate; every second matters. That's why having the highest quality cardiac services is crucial, and technology is always advancing. Your donations in support of my Tely 10 run will help improve the care of patients and equip our health care professionals with the tools they need to save lives.
I would like to sincerely thank you for choosing to support me, my family and the amazing people of Newfoundland and Labrador as I run for Dave and Ed.
