We build electric eco-fences in Africa to protect Africa's threatened ecosystems

Story

Welcome to our JustGiving page in support of Rhino Ark, an NGO whose guiding philosophy is “humans in harmony with habitat and wildlife”. We are Team Kifaru Kwanza, which translates to ‘Rhino First.’ We are gearing up to participate in the annual adrenaline-pumping spectacle: the Rhino Charge - a thrilling one day off-road event held in Kenya.

The NGO:

Rhino Ark is committed to community empowerment and has initiated hundreds of programmes which support sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity preservation. Not only do they work to protect the rhinos, they save forgotten species too such as the endangered Mountain Bongo. They’ve established 2 integral wildlife corridors across Kenya. Rhino Ark really are making a big impact, and currently work with 85,000 families protecting them from wildlife conflict. Community-focused projects include the construction of school classrooms (184 and counting!) and community clinics.

The Race:

On June 1st 2024, Team Kifaru Kwanza will embark across untamed terrain of Kenya. Armed with nothing but a trusty 1:50,000 scale map, a GPS and a particularly untrustworthy car, Kifaru Kwanza will join 65 other teams to navigate through the wilderness. They will crisscross 13 checkpoints sprawled across 100 square kilometres of rugged landscape, overcoming various obstacles along the way — all within a 10-hour time frame. The teams must strategise their course with precision in a game where tactics and teamwork reign supreme! The victorious team will be the one who meets all the checkpoints in the quickest time, covering the shortest distance possible.

The team:

We are a bonkers bunch of six; Anthony is our fearless team leader, the driver, and our old timer, who has already taken part in 15 Charges! Eric is a French pilot, known for driving into ditches so thankfully, he’s now on navigation duties. The runners are; Amy - she’s renowned for delivering motivational abuse to the team. James is our moustached military man, so he should know his way around a compass - but does he? Jonathon is our giant, at 6 ft 3 he’s out there running instead of trying to fit his long limbs in and out the back of the car. And Sophie, she is the newest recruit, she Amy’s sister and follows in her footsteps - just as crazy. All of us are coming together with an unwavering desire for adventure, ready to face up to the innumerable challenges the virgin african bush poses, and to mobilise funds to help protect a country which is dear to our hearts.

How You Can Help:

By backing Team Kifaru Kwanza, you are contributing to Rhino Ark’s vital conservation work. Your donations will help raise funds for wildlife protection initiatives, safeguarding Kenya's natural treasures by contributing to the ongoing efforts to mitigate human-wildlife conflict across East Africa.

Join forces with us, to support a more sustainable future for Kenya's wildlife and ecosystems!

Thank you for your generosity.

Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu.
