Story

March and April 2026

Millie and Giana will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and taking part in the Kilimanjaro Marathon event to raise awareness of, and funds for, the fight against Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Giana will be running the full marathon and Millie will be running the half.

We’re aiming to raise £5,895 each - £1 for every metre of Kilimanjaro's 5,895m summit.

Millie's Story

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a rare and devastating brain disease that most people have never heard of — until it affects someone they love.

Around three years ago, at the age of 55, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Sadly, just before Christmas 2025, after several brain scans and further examinations, his diagnosis was changed to a rare condition known as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Misdiagnosis is unfortunately common, with many people initially told they have Parkinson’s before later being diagnosed with PSP.

So what is PSP?

PSP is a rapidly progressive and untreatable neurological condition that robs people of things many of us take for granted — balance, movement, speech, the ability to swallow or move their eyes. Everyday tasks become harder, and life has to be adapted in ways that are difficult to imagine. With increasing disability, and a life expectancy of between five and nine years after symptom onset, daily life and future plans have to change.

Watching someone you love live with PSP is incredibly painful, and there’s a helplessness that comes with knowing you can’t fix it. But these last few years have shown me just how strong my dad is. Despite the challenges, hes still the man he's always been- the same Dad we love so much. We are taking on these challenges to honour him and to turn that pain into something positive. I’m so proud of you, Dad.
