Story

Holly and I are climbing Kilimanjaro for Mental Health Support That Changes Lives.

In October, we’ll be taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro — the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

But this isn’t just about reaching the summit. It’s about raising vital funds for two charities doing life-changing work in our community: Menfulness and York Women's Counselling Service.

Why Are We Doing This?

Mental health challenges affect so many people, yet too many still struggle in silence.

- Menfulness provides support and safe spaces for men to talk openly about their mental health. They help break the stigma, encourage connection, and offer practical support to men who may otherwise feel isolated.

- York Women’s Counselling Service offers affordable counselling and emotional support to women in York and the surrounding area — helping women navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, and life’s many challenges.

Both charities rely heavily on fundraising and donations to continue their work. Every pound raised helps provide counselling sessions, support groups, and safe spaces for people who truly need them.

Why Kilimanjaro?

Climbing Kilimanjaro will push us physically and mentally. There will be early starts, freezing nights, altitude challenges, and long days of trekking. It will test our resilience, determination, and teamwork.

In many ways, that feels fitting.

Mental health journeys can be just as tough; often invisible, often uphill. We’re taking on this mountain to shine a light on those struggles and to help ensure that no one has to face theirs alone.

How You Can Help?

If you’re able to donate — no matter the amount — you’ll be directly supporting two organisations that make a real difference in people’s lives.

- £10 could help fund vital resources

- £25 contributes towards a counselling session

- £50 could help provide ongoing support to someone in crisis

Every donation means more support, more conversations, and more hope. If you can’t donate, sharing our page would mean the world to us.

Thank you for being part of this journey. We’ll carry your support with us every step of the way — all the way to the summit (hopefully)!!
