Story
On Thursday 2nd July at 4pm I'll be at Milngavie Train Station to take on By Way of the Glen - a 170-mile ultramarathon following the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way, running from Glasgow to Inverness. The route has around 24,000ft of climbing and I'll have just 55 hours to reach the finish. That's 55 hours from the moment I leave Milngavie until I reach Inverness - including every food stop, kit change and the little sleep I'll allow myself.
The aim is to run as much as possible... but let's be honest, I'm sure there will be plenty of walking, trudging, shuffling, stumbling and hobbling too.
Last time I fundraised for The Health Agency, I set myself a target of £1,000. This time, I'm aiming for £5,000. It feels like a huge target, especially with less than 2 weeks to raise it, but if I believe I can run 170 miles, then I have to believe we can raise £5,000.
Every day through my work at The Health Agency, I meet people in Wester Hailes and across South West Edinburgh who are facing challenges no one should have to face alone. Whether it's poor mental health, cancer, long-term health conditions, loneliness or financial hardship, I've seen first-hand how the right support can change lives.
At The Health Agency, we believe everyone deserves the chance to live well. We support people to improve their mental and physical health, navigate cancer and long-term health conditions, access nutritious food, stay active, build strength and feel part of their community. We create welcoming spaces where people feel safe and supported, rebuild confidence, connect with others and feel less alone.
If you're able to, please donate whatever you can and/or share my page to help me reach as many people as possible. Every donation, share and message of support will help keep me going through tough times and the money raised will make a real difference for The Health Agency. Thank you!
