Story

We are returning to Cherish School in Nakuru, Kenya to continue the work we started during our first humanitarian visit in 2024.

Nothing quite prepares you for the reality of life there and it proved to be one of the most humbling experiences we’d ever had. But in the middle of incredibly challenging conditions, Cherish stands as a place of hope.

When we arrived, the 120 children at the school were eating their meals outside sat on the makeshift playground or classroom base block. Their cook was preparing breakfast and lunch each day over two wood-fired pots in a rickety wooden shack. For many of these children, those meals are the only food they receive all day (see the gallery on this page).

Together with our team, we built a dining hall so the children could sit, eat and gather in a safe, dry space. We installed a proper kitchen so meals could be prepared more safely and efficiently. It may sound simple, but seeing the children eat at tables, under a roof, with dignity – knowing they were warm and protected – was incredibly moving.

We also worked closely with the teachers to help strengthen the curriculum, supporting them in giving the children the best education possible. In a community where security is a constant concern, we helped build a perimeter wall to protect the school and keep the children safe. We provided books, learning materials, play equipment, and ensured that every child had a school uniform and a pair of shoes – something many of them had never owned before.

This May we are returning to Cherish with DCCT Rams in Kenya.

The need is still great, but so is the potential to help more. This year, we hope to complete the security wall and lay the foundations for a third classroom, a crucial step toward the school gaining formal recognition from the local government. That recognition will open doors to further support and long-term sustainability. We will once again work alongside the teachers, provide learning resources, and replace uniforms and shoes – many of which will have been worn daily since our last visit.

Last year, we were completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown by our family, friends and local businesses. Your support didn’t just fund materials and resources, it changed daily life for 120 children.

This year, we’d love to invite you to be part of that impact again.

Please support us by donating as little or as much as you can, it is all very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Col & Kim x
