Story
Derby County Football Club has the ability to engage people, raising hopes and aspirations, improving the lives of the people of Derbyshire.
As a Club we are committed to ensuring that we respond to local needs whilst working strategically in line with regional and national agendas. We all recognise that sport can play a prominent role in addressing major issues such as rising obesity levels, community cohesion, health inequalities, un-employment and educational attainment.Thank you for visiting our joint Just Giving page!
Each year since 2012 Derby County Community Trust have teamed up with African Adventures to send volunteers to work in schools in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya. In the first year, they were only able to support one school, St Trizah. Since then, their numbers have grown to now be able to support several different schools each trip including Ungana Academy, Cherish, West End Academy and Jubile. It is also great to know that a proportion of our fundraising also stays here in Derby for the Trust to use towards some of their projects and programmes on the doorstep including holiday coaching for primary children and Harrisons Hub at Pride Park.
In May 2024 we are also taking part and will be volunteering with Derby County Community Trust Rams in Kenya to do our bit to help improve life for children in one of the projects five partner schools. Whilst Colin will be primarily getting involved with the schools to improve sanitation, build new classrooms or facilities and increase safety measures, Kim will be supporting teaching and physical activity within the schools and providing daily updates linking back to share the experience with pupils at Silverhill Primary here at home.
The trip will surely be very eye opening and challenging for us both but we are greatly excited by the amazing opportunity to make a long-term difference to pupils and staff in some of the poorest suburbs in Kenya.
In order to do this we really need your help. The children in Kenya face challenges every day so we will be completing some challenges of our own to get us there. Starting with Kim doing a Firewalk on November 16th, as well as an Outdoor sleepover, 10k run and the High Peak challenge to name a few.
Please support us by donating as little or as much as you can, it is all very much appreciated.
