Hello all,

This year, I’m taking on something Big — a full MARATHON — what a crazy decision, I know! I have always wanted to take the marathon challenge on and here we are.....January with only 3 months to go!!!!!

I am starting to have doubts but I’m doing it for a cause that matters deeply to me: Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a devastating condition that progressively attacks the motor neurones & nerves in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. This takes away a person’s ability to move, speak, eat, and eventually breathe. There’s no cure yet, and the support people need as the disease progresses is immense. But behind every statistic is a real person, a real family, and a real story of courage. That’s what drives me. I have had the privilege in a professional capacity as a Physiotherapist to support individuals and their family facing this condition and see the heart-breaking impact it can have.

Training for a marathon is tough, but it’s nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by those living with MND. Every mile I run is a reminder of the strength, resilience, and dignity shown by people who don’t get to choose their battle. I can choose mine — and I’m choosing to run for them.

I’m running to raise awareness.

I’m running to raise funds for research and support.

I’m running because no one should face this disease alone.

Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.

Here is how fundraising can help:

£85 could pay for an important chemical to preserve 600 tubes of cells when they are frozen

£280 could pay for a person with MND to download their banked voice

£500 could fund a tablet device, giving the ability to communicate with loved ones

£1000 could pay for detailed analysis of DNA to help us better understand the causes of the disease.
