Story

For anyone who knows me I try to do my bit for charity, I did an abseil off Liverpool Cathedral for a local hospice, I skipped everyday in February last year in February for Cancer research and all way through these events I thought of my beautiful friends and what they were going through. I even skipped in Copenhagen in front of the little mermaid on my 50th birthday! I sent a video to Daisy as she was in hospital having treatment which made her smile. I am taking part in the 10k Shine Night Walk in Birmingham on the 7th September for all the amazing and courageous people who have been affected by this awful disease we all know someone… family, friends and colleagues. A few I want to name are Daisy Bull, Jo Graham, Josie and Steve T. Myself and 3 of my best friends of over 40 years will take part in this.

Daisy Bull aged 12, was one of my lifelong friend's daughter, She was diagnosed with cancer in her kidney three years ago. Daisy was originally diagnosed with a Wilms tumour, a type of kidney cancer found in children. She had her kidney removed and chemotherapy, then was given the all-clear. The cancer came back, but she was given the all-clear a second time after further chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, the cancer then spread to her chest wall, after fighting for so long and so hard she passed away on 21 December. Daisy was an absolute fighter, a ray of sunshine to everyone who knew her and throughout her suffering she always had the most beautiful smile on her face that would brighten up anyone’s day.

Jo Graham is an amazing lifelong friend. Jo was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2023. She had a mastectomy and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Through all of her treatment she was an inspiration and great support to our friend Sal (Daisy’s Mum). Thankfully, Jo is now cancer free and is walking with me along with another Jo & Nic.

I will also be walking this for two colleagues who I had the pleasure to work with, their lives were tragically cut short through this awful disease, Josie who died from breast cancer just before her 40 birthday and Steve T who died aged 37 just over a year ago from bowel cancer leaving behind two beautiful boys under 2 years of age.

1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime which is a very scary statistic. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. Donate to my Giving Page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Thank you taking the time to read my story and thanks in advance for your support, love Kim xx
