More about why I'm fundraising for Myton / Doing this trek:
My beautiful husband, soulmate, creative collaborator and best friend, Craig Spivey sadly left this world Thursday 8th February 2024 after a long battle with Cancer.
For the last 5 weeks of his life he was cared for by the amazing team at Myton Hospice in Warwick. I don't think I can ever repay them for the kindness, respect and love they extended to us during Craig's stay, but hopefully this fundraiser will go some way toward expressing my gratitude.
I have self-funded this trek so every pound donated goes to Myton!
------------
The Challenge:
Craig used to call me "lightning in a bottle" and since he has gone I am missing the anchor that keeps me grounded and feeling at home. So in true Kimberley style, I can't just sit on hands and do nothing so I'm going to channel this nervous energy into something beautiful.
This time I'm trekking the Indian Himalayas with a team of amazing people for Myton Hospice!
This 5 day trek combines awesome Himalayan trekking with a visit to India’s exiled Tibetan community. The trek begins and ends at the heart of the world’s highest mountain range in Dharamsala, where the Dalai Lama and the centre of the Tibetan community are located.
The expedition follows the Uhl River, through rhododendron and evergreen forests, taking in Hindu settlements and isolated Buddhist monasteries.
On the challenge I'll be:
- Trekking an average of 15km-20km per day and 6-8 hours per day.
- Trekking in high temperatures so the risk of sunstroke is very high!
- Going to high altitude, and reaching a maximum altitude of 3000 metres above sea level.
- Trekking through unique remote areas
- Staying in lodges with very basic facilities, or camping
More about Myton and why they need more funds:
I honestly couldn't have got through the last 5 weeks with Craig without the support of Myton!
Myton Hospices believes that everyone matters for every single moment of their life; we focus on enhancing life when cure is no longer an option.
They are a charity, not the NHS, and must raise £12.7 million of the £15.3 million it costs this year to provide our services free of charge.
Just 17% of its funding comes from the NHS.
Last year, they supported over 2,000 people and their families, in our hospices, via our patient & family support services, and in the community through Myton at Home. More people need a hospice: the demand for beds at Myton has increased by 11% in the last 12 months.
Your donations make a massive difference:
- £34 donated goes towards the daily upkeep cost of our relatives accommodation
- £60 donated could fund two hours of specialist nursing care
- £90 could fund three children's counselling sessions
- £126 covers the cost of a patient's meal for one week
