Why We’re Doing a Skydive for LHCH Charity

We have decided to take on a skydive to raise money for the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) Charity, supporting the incredible work they do for lung cancer patients and their families.

We are doing this together for very personal reasons.

Kinga’s inspiration is her friend Gill, who works at LHCH as a Hygiene Assistant. In January this year, Gill was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer. After multiple hospital appointments, biopsies, CT scans, and specialist visits in London, she was told she would need major surgery to remove half of her left lung.

Despite everything she was facing, Gill remained incredibly strong and positive. She continued working almost right up until the day of her operation, always saying she had lung cancer and had to get on with it. Her determination and courage have been truly inspiring.

Gill’s operation took place on 5th May and, thankfully, it was a success. She is now recovering well at home and making excellent progress. Even now, she is already looking forward to returning to work as soon as possible. Recently, Gill received the amazing news that all of the cancer has been removed and she does not need any further treatment.

Michelle’s reason is also deeply personal. In 2010, she sadly lost her dad to lung cancer just six months after his diagnosis. In 2014, she then lost her mum to breast cancer. This year, seeing her friend Gill go through lung cancer brought everything back, but also showed just how far treatment and care have come. Thanks to the lung screening programme, Gill’s cancer was detected early and treated successfully.

Throughout Gill’s journey, the care, compassion, and professionalism from the doctors, nurses, specialists, and hospital staff at LHCH have been truly outstanding. The support patients receive from diagnosis through treatment and recovery is incredible.

We are taking on this skydive not only to face our fears, but to give something back to this amazing charity and the people who make such a difference every day.

Our fear of the jump is nothing compared to what patients and families face every day, but if stepping outside our comfort zone can help raise vital funds, then it is absolutely worth it.
