Story
As part of our production of A Christmas Carol, the Kings Langley Players are proudly raising money for Watford Foodbank.
When Charles Dickens had Scrooge bring Christmas lunch to the Cratchit family, he was deliberately encouraging his readers to undertake their own acts of generosity.
Though much has changed since A Christmas Carol was written in 1843, 1 in 5 people in the UK still live below the poverty line. Like Tiny Tim and his siblings, there are 3.4 million children in poverty across the UK, with upwards of 25,000 in Hertfordshire alone.
Watford Foodbank are doing invaluable work to support the local community, having delivered 8000 emergency food parcels in 2024 – that’s over 20 a day. The Foodbank network as a whole delivers one food parcel every 12 seconds.
