Kingsley Napley Polar Plunge 2024 · 12 March 2024

Every year, thousands of young people across the capital become homeless through no fault of their own. That’s why New Horizon exists. We are a vital support network for 16–24-year-olds with nowhere else to go. Through our services, we support young people experiencing homelessness in London to improve their wellbeing, change their economic circumstances and find somewhere that they can call home.

Story

A team of us are taking part in a 'Polar Plunge' to raise money for New Horizon Youth Centre (NHYC). We'll be plunging into Hackney's (chilly!!) West Reservoir bright and early on 12 March 2024.

NHYC is a fantastic charity which supports young people aged 16 – 24 who are homeless or unsafe in London.

Rough sleeping data released in October 2023 showed the following:

i. 4,068 people were recorded as rough sleeping in London between July - September 2023, this is an increase of 12% on the same period last year.

ii. 2,086 people slept rough for the first time, a 13% increase on the same figure this time last year.

iii. 481 people were deemed to be living on the streets, 17% higher than in April – June 2023.

iv. 1,561 people were intermittently rough sleeping, 16% higher than the same period last year

It's estimated that approx 135,600 16 - 24 year olds in the UK are homeless or are at risk of homelessness. Every 10 minutes one Londoner is forced into homelessness.

We want to do our part to raise money for a great charity that is actively and determinedly supporting those who are most vulnerable to homelessness especially during the current cost of living crisis.

We would really love your support and donations if you can!

Thank you from team KN!
