Campaign by Alzheimer's Society (RCN 296645)
Who will you walk for? This year thousands of people will feel it all and walk for everyone affected by dementia. By taking part in Memory Walk, you will be providing help and hope to everyone living with dementia now and in the future.

Story

5 years ago, I lost my beloved bibhi ji (grandmother) Tarsem Kaur, to Alzheimer’s disease. A heartbreaking illness that slowly takes memories and leaves a deep impact on families. Sadly, dementia is now the UK's leading cause of death, with no current cure.

That's why I'm determined to confront this challenge. As a young carer during my childhood for my gran, I witnessed firsthand how Alzheimer's affects both the person suffering and their loved ones. Caring for her was a significant responsibility, but one that I can call my greatest achievement.

While my caring role ended with her passing in 2019, my fight against Alzheimer's continues. I'm a strong advocate for research and funding for the Alzheimer's Society. I've participated in research studies, spoken with researchers from universities like Oxford and Bradford, and even shared my experiences with organizations such as SocialCareTalk by Dipex. Throughout my studies, a lot of my projects I focused on raising awareness on the disease.

The increasing number of people affected is a growing concern, especially within the south Asian community. I’ve witnessed this firsthand and unfortunately, critical information about Alzheimer's isn't readily available for those who don't speak English as a first language.

That's why this Memory Walk, in my bibhi ji’s memory, is so important. By fundraising and participating, we can raise awareness and provide support to those who need it most. We can fight for a future where Alzheimer's doesn’t leave families struggling.

This walk may be my first, but I’m hoping to participate regularly.

I'm doing this for my gran, for everyone affected by this disease, and for the hope of finding a cure.

Please donate and help in walking for a brighter future.
