Story
My delight at being a finalist for Volunteer of the Year in the Animal Charity Awards is matched only by my surprise!
As a toddler eager to 'pet' the Scottish SPCA's iconic collie-and-lamb collection cans wherever we went, it was instilled in me by my grandpa Bill how care for our animal companions makes the world a more equitable and compassionate place for us all. Every step I've taken since and every pound I've raised so far, both of which are always supported by my fantastic colleagues in our local fundraising group, has been inspired by the truly indefatigable work delivered by the SSPCA as Scotland's only all-animal emergency service. Without them, my beloved rescue dogs Gypsy and Winnie would not have survived to thrive and tell the tale (wagging their tails!), and as the Society looks towards 190 years and counting, I'm prouder than ever to follow in our founder Martha's footsteps and be part of the rescue.
To celebrate becoming a 2026 award finalist, I'm inviting you to be part of the rescue too – the SSPCA delivers its life-saving, life-changing work without a penny of government funding, so every donation really does make a difference. Please give what you can, thanks everyone!
