Story

Update 31 May

Granny Moira has now completed 7.8 km walking round Tayport Common on five outings She has covered 4.85 miles - almost half a mile longer than the Kiltwalk distance. (We are not very good converting km into miles - just as well we asked Alexa this week or Granny might still be walking).

Unfortunately, both Rusty and Bertie have had setbacks this week - Rusty has had colitis and Bertie has had a flare up of his hip problem, an upset tummy and allergy issues. We have taken a few steps back in their rehab. This is a week of rest and 10 minute walks and we will start building up slowly again in the next few weeks when things settle down.

Update 15 May

Rusty had his final knee surgery on 13th May in Aberdeen. It went well. He is now in a period of rest and restrictions for four weeks This will be followed by hydrotherapy and he should be able for the Kiltwalk in August

==========

Rusty and Bertie, who bring so much joy to so many people, are again raising funds for Hounds for Heroes on the Dundee Kiltwalk. We know how much emotional and practical support dogs can bring to their people and so enjoy supporting Hounds for Heroes.

Hounds for Heroes provides specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled personnel of HM Armed Forces and of the Emergency Services. The charity trains dogs to provide help and practical support to meet the specific needs of the individual they are paired with, leading to an enhanced quality of life.

Both Rusty and Bertie have had serious challenges this year. Bertie is currently recovering from his second major surgery and working hard in the hydrotherapy pool to get fit enough for August 17th. Rusty has had three surgeries on his knee since February. We are slowly building up his walking in weekly 5 minute increments.

This year, Granny Moira will not manage the distance in one go but is covering the 4.5 miles in short stages in the weeks leading up to the walk. She will be an important part of the cheerleading squad on the day and will be there to meet us at the finish.

All going well, Rusty and Bertie should be sufficiently recovered to do the Wee Wander on 17th August. We are encouraging all their able-bodied human friends to walk with us or sponsor us. It is also a significant birthday for Alyson in July and instead of gifts she is asking family and friends to join in the Kiltwalk and raise funds for Hounds for Heroes.
