Kirsten and Laura's fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers

Kirsten Gillespie is raising money for Literacy Volunteers

100 Mile Running Event · 12 September 2026

Our Volunteers help improve a child’s literacy and communication in a local primary school. Literacy Volunteers work with children 1-1 in schools to develop an interest and love for reading, helping to break down barriers and open doors for life-long achievement. Volunteers transform the lives of children and as well as helping improve literacy and discover reading for pleasure, Volunteers build children's confidence and self esteem.

Story

On 12th September 2026, Laura and I will be attempting to complete the Robin Hood 100 mile event held in Nottinghamshire. With this being our biggest challenge yet, we thought it would be a good opportunity to raise money for the wonderful charity Kirsten works for, Literacy Volunteers.

Literacy Volunteers is a Nottinghamshire based charity in its 30th year of supporting children in primary schools with their literacy, communication and social skills. The charity has a thriving Volunteer workforce who dedicate half a day every week to read with children in schools. Literacy Volunteers also work with families with pre-school aged children through the Early Years programme, Learning to Love Books.

Primary schools pay a subscription fee of £399.00 to have a volunteer in school for one year. With school budgets becoming tighter each year, we would love to raise enough money to offer a school a volunteer fully-funded. Any donation will be hugely appreciated and will help us get to that finish line!
