Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Hi I’m Kirstie, and for those that know me, will know that my Dad was my best friend and I sadly lost him on April 5th 2021. When he gained his wings I lost a massive part of me too, so running this race, the day after is 3rd anniversary is just meant to be.

My Dad had a one lead pacemaker fitted beginning of 2020, it was ment to be two but they found out, during the operation that the bottom of his heart wasn’t functioning. I remember him saying to me now, “I’ve had this pacemaker fitted I can’t die”, heartbreaking but untrue. I always explained, what he thought would be a miracle just wasn’t the case.

Fast forward to lockdown, I rushed him to hospital with a heart rate of 26, after lots of tests, it was shown that his pacemaker had flipped, St Barts hospital team came to Barnet and flipped it back with a big magnet and after this he was diagnosed with Preliminary Heart Disease (Bigeminy refers to a heartbeat marked by two beats close together with a pause following each pair of beat, this rhythm arises from a minor misfire in the heart's electrical system).

My Dad seemed to be living a normal day to day life until one day he had a heart attack at work, they tried desperately to save him but it was too late.

A post-mortem, was done and it was said that if he didn’t die that day that he would have had a maximum of two weeks, because he had hypersensitive heart disease.

After losing my Dad I have spent so much time, searching & searching and all the answers were there. After the news about the bottom of his heart it was maximum 5 years…

What I’m trying to say is that I’ve always treated our time as so precious but if we was given more information we would of known a lot more and done so much more with the time that he had left.

So, in light of this, I want to raise as much awareness for people going through the same, so that they have the opportunity to have all the answers they need, as well as the time, closure & more importantly, not wondering about the what if’s.

So please if you could spare one pound or even just share my page I would be truely greatful.

Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
