Story
In April 2026, I (together with Ben’s wife Sarah) will be taking on the huge challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon — a challenge that means more to me than I can express.
In October 2025, my brother Ben died after being diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer earlier that year. It was devastating, but the compassion and care we received from St Margaret’s Hospice made an unbearable time gentler, kinder, and more dignified. They didn’t just look after Ben — they looked after the whole family. They ensured he had the peaceful, dignified death that every person deserves, and they supported us before, during, and after his passing.
Ben received counselling throughout his illness, and my nephews now have lifelong access to bereavement support. That safety net has been invaluable to us all.
Every day, St Margaret’s Hospice Care stands beside people facing the hardest moments of their lives. Their teams provide expert medical care, emotional support, and the reassurance that no one has to face life‑limiting illness alone. They help families make every day count, offering comfort, dignity, and peace when it matters most.
But this vital work is only possible through fundraising.
Each year, St Margaret’s cares for thousands of patients — at home, in their inpatient units, and through community outreach. It costs over £15 million annually to keep these services running, and the majority of that must be raised through donations.
Your generosity helps to ensure that:
A nurse can visit a patient at home in the middle of the night
Families receive bereavement support when they need it most
Patients have access to expert pain relief, emotional care, and compassionate support
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, it will make a real and lasting difference. Thank you so much for helping me honour Ben’s memory and support the incredible charity that carried us through our darkest days.
