A team is running the Brighton 10K on 19 Nov 2023, in aid of Release Counselling &Therapy for Women, which founded and runs Mother Nurture counselling groups for new mums in Brighton & Hove. Our goal is to nurture confidence and wellbeing in new mums.

Story

Becoming a Mum is the most wonderful yet hugely challenging transition and raising tiny humans is the biggest adventure with no instruction manual. Mother Nurture (previously Mummyshock) is a wonderful and much needed support group and I want to enable other Mums do it!

After a traumatic start to becoming a Mum of two, where my one week baby Avi was seriously ill and we had a long-ish hospital stay away from my oldest boy Josiah which deeply affected him I attended a brilliant Mummyshock support group. It was so timely and encouraging, connecting me with a lovely supportive group of Mums which was just what I needed. To be honest, I think this course should be available for any new Mum. Therefore I’ve decided (gulp - now it’s public) to train for a 10km in November to raise some funds for them. I know for some people this isn’t a crazy big distance, but for me this feels a BIG challenge after a long time of no running, and with very little spare time for training. Your sponsorship will encourage me to get out of bed and do those training runs!

Here a bit more info about the cause …

Release Counselling and Therapy for Women, the Charity which founded and runs Mummyshock in Brighton & Hove, is passionate about helping new mums build mental health resilience in a supportive community of other mums, and support one another to grow in confidence and well-being.

Our goal is to nurture mental health resilience in new mums, in a supportive community of women.

Since Covid-19, demand for Mummyshock support groups has grown by 300%. The need is bigger than ever before, so that is why a team of us are running the Brighton 10k in November, to raise crucial funds to provide more support groups for more mums in the year ahead.

This is what some mums have said about their experience of Mummyshock:

"This course should be available to every new mum- there is nothing like it."

"I dont think I would be the mum I am now without this group. It almost saved me in those early days."

"This was a lifeline for me."
