Story
This October, we’ll be taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon, running alongside our partners at Stream to support one of our joint customers, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, and specifically the incredible work of its Breast Unit.
We’re all keen hobby runners, although for some of us our previous half marathon experience was quite a long time ago! With not a huge amount of time to prepare, we’ve thrown ourselves into some fairly extreme training plans over the last few weeks and will be pushing ourselves to put in times we can be proud of on the day.
Most importantly, though, this is a cause that is incredibly personal to us all.
Jan’s story:
I’m delighted to be raising money for Breast Cancer, specifically the Breast Unit at Princess Alexandra, who have conducted more than 40 clinical trials resulting in many trial drugs being approved for standard care. This is personal for me, with my big sister (and bestest friend!) having had breast cancer in 2015 and witnessing first hand the treatment she had to undergo and the impact it had on her & her family. Thankfully she is now 11 years clear and I am grateful for that every day!
Kirsty’s story:
I’ll be running in memory of my mum, who I lost to breast cancer as a teenager in the early 1990s. Treatment options and outcomes were very different then and, sadly, she didn’t get the chance to see her children grow up. The progress made since then, thanks to charities, research and specialist teams like the Breast Unit at Princess Alexandra, is incredible. I’m hoping the money we raise can help more people facing breast cancer today have better treatment, better outcomes and the chance for more precious time with their families.
Mike’s story:
Like so many people, breast cancer has touched people close to me. Two of my colleagues at RLDatix have been through this with their families, and seeing the impact it has had on them and those closest to them has brought home just how important the care, support and research around breast cancer really is. I’ll be running with them, and all the other families affected by breast cancer, very much in mind. I’m proud that we can also support the fantastic work of the Breast Unit at Princess Alexandra, one of our NHS customers. It’s been a while since I’ve tackled 13.1 miles, so this will definitely be a challenge — but one very much worth taking on.
We'd all be really grateful for your support 💗
We’ll be doing our best to make all those training miles count and would be incredibly grateful for any donation, big or small.
Every contribution will help support the Breast Unit and the work being done to improve treatment, care and outcomes for people affected by breast cancer.
Thank you for supporting us. Now we just need to get ourselves round 13.1 miles! 🏃♀️🏃♀️
