Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

We are Kirsty and Rosie and we're running the Hackney Half-Marathon on Sunday 18th May for the UK Sepsis Trust.

We're fundraising in memory of Kirsty's little sister Hannah, who passed away in May last year at the age of 29 after a short illness which was ultimately identified as sepsis.

Nothing can bring Hannah back, but supporting the UK Sepsis Trust is a small way to prevent other families suffering from loss through sepsis as Kirsty's has. The charity does vital work raising awareness of the symptoms of sepsis, both amongst medical practitioners and the general public. It also runs online support groups for people who have experienced sepsis and those who have lost a loved one to the condition, and lobby the Government around issues related to sepsis.

Any donations are so appreciated! We'll also be organising some games in the run up to the race for you get involved in where you'll have the chance to win some prizes!

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any support. <3
