Story
We are aiming to cycle 180km (Ironman distance) on a wattbike to raise awareness and money for Finlay’s Friends. Both of us have spent our fair share of time on the indoor bike because of injury this year, however, our sessions are usually intervals and an hour long - so this is going to be a big challenge! It’s expected that this will take around 5 - 6 hours.
We are putting ourselves through wattbike torture in order to raise some money and awareness for Finlay’s Friends. The charity was set up in memory of Finlay Bennett, who was just 8 years old when he died suddenly from meningitis in 2014. Finlay was a talented and passionate young judo player who trained alongside Kirsty at Destination Judo Dunfermline.
Finlay’s Friends is a charitable organisation (Charity number SC046675) set up in memory of Finlay Bennett, who died suddenly on the 30th July 2014 from Meningitis. Finlay was only 8 years old but in his short life he had always put the needs of others before himself. He loved his judo and had just started training with Destination Judo’s squad. To honour his kindness and to support other families who experience similar situations to Finlay’s family, Finlay’s Friends aims to provide support when it is most needed.Finlay’s Friends provides Comfort Kits and phone chargers to families of seriously ill children admitted to hospital in an emergency. Following the success of our partnership with the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow who cared for Finlay, we have since extended our support to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, St John’s in Livingston, Ninewells in Dundee and NHS Fife - Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. With your help, Finlay’s Friends will continue a wide range of fundraising activities and will work with other charitable organisations and businesses in order to fund the supply of Comfort Kits and additional support to families in crisis.
