Story
As most of Dad's family, friends and acquaintances will know he has been passionately involved in and an active supporter of the Ocean Youth Club / OYT South since the 1960s. He was deeply involved in the founding of the OYC and was a governor of the charity for many years. Since not having a formal role he has remained an active supporter and champion of the sail training cause via the OYT South. His support has been a natural marriage of his love of sailing and his wish to improve the life chances of young people.
This amazing charity takes young people on life changing voyages that widen their horizons, give them a new perspective on life and help them learn what they are capable of. For many, with limited opportunities to experience unfamiliar challenges in a safe environment, a sail training trip can be genuinely life changing. Gaining the confidence to overcome fears at sea can then be quickly applied to life back on land. We believe that OYT South remains a wonderful cause and is well worth our support.
Many from disadvantaged backgrounds who would greatly benefit from a sail training adventure with OYT South. In Dad's memory we are creating a modest fund that will be used to fund young people to go on an OYT South trip who would simply not otherwise be able to afford to.
Any funds raised will be ring-fence by OYT South and will be combined with a legacy that our father has made to the charity. Depending on how much is raised there will be an agreed number of trips each year to be paid for by the the fund, until it is depleted- likely over 5-10 years.
As OYT South is a registered charity any donations made can benefit from gift aid.
If you are inclined to support this wonderful cause in memory of Dad we would be enormously touched and grateful.
Our best wishes
