Story
Hi!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My names Kirsty :) and I have signed myself up to run 10 miles this October in the Great South Run! Mad I know! I am no runner!
BUT!
With that being said…. I wanted to do something that I know was going to push me both physically and mentally as I am doing it for something very close to my heart.
At 1am on the morning of the 31st January 2026 my waters broke! I was 29+6 weeks pregnant. I was rushed to Portsmouth QA hospital who looked after me amazingly. Then at 10:30am on the 1st Feb my little boy decided he wanted to show his little foot and now was his time to shine! At 12:09pm my little Albie arrived 10 weeks early weighing 3lb 7oz and was taken straight to NICU. He was looked after here for 17 days until he was well enough and big enough to be transferred to Chichester Special Care Baby Unit. Portsmouth NICU were honestly amazing and we cannot thank them enough!
But… this is where I feel our journey really begun.
We spent a total of 50 days in Chichester SCBU.
During this time Albie was looked after with the most amazing love, care and attention a tiny baby could wish for. Not just Albie but myself and Daniel also.
The staff are outstanding, the nurses, doctors, consultants, I couldn’t have asked for better.
During our stay Albie fell very suddenly ill. In that moment our world crashed.
The quick reactions from the nurses and doctors was outstanding. Albie got the treatment he needed within seconds and shortly after we discovered the outcome of his sudden decline.
Without going into too much detail I am just so pleased with the medical care Albie received, ( and continues to receive) and the love and support that was given to myself and Daniel even more so during this time.
I feel it is only right that I’d like to do my bit to give something back to SCBU. I personally lived also on the unit for 43 days and it became my 2nd home to be closer to Albie
Raising money for this amazing unit will mean the absolute world to us. They deserve so much more support than what they receive and I hope the money raised can be put to very good use which I know it will.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page, We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and Albies for your donation to this amazing unit.
Some may ask why SCBU and not Portsmouth NICU. I feel and see a lot of fundraising for NICU and I never see anything for SCBU. They deserve it too, they are such a small unit but give amazing care to our little fighter babies.
We love them all so much!!
Thank you 😊
