My mum was a victim to domestic abuse, and I was just a kid when it happened. I know how hard it was both on my mum, and myself, and I know the help that organisations such as Refuge can offer. Refuge is to support women and children against domestic abuse, and having been in that position, I don’t believe there is a more suitable charity for me to both run the marathon and raise awareness for. Joining Team Refuge is an honour, and a step to show my Mum how proud of her I am, along with running it for a really special and extremely helpful organisation.

I have joined Team Refuge, after being a White Ribbon Ambassador and an Ambassador for Domestic Abuse Education, as I feel everyone should have a voice, and do their part in raising awareness for such crucial charities. After witnessing the horrific side effects and consequences of domestic abuse first hand, I am extremely proud to support Refuge in the amazing work that they do.

One woman in four will experience domestic abuse at some point in her lifetime and on average one woman is killed every 5 days in England and Wales by a current or former partner.

Refuge is the largest single provider of specialist services to survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse and runs the freephone, 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline that provides the first step to women escaping abuse.
