Founded in 1803 by Royal Warrant, the now renamed ‘’The Duke of York's Royal Military School’’ was established to educate the orphans of British servicemen killed in the Napoleonic Wars of 1793–1815. In 2010, the school became an Academy under the Ministry of Defence and accepts applications from any student wishing to enrol from the civilian and armed forces community. It is only one of thirty State run Boarding Schools in the UK and is steeped in military history. Staff from Kent and Medway NHS Trust are going to sleep rough overnight on 12th of June to raise money for students to take part in Cadet Force extra curriculum activities.
