Hiking for Henshaws: Local Disability Support and Community
Hello and thank you for visiting my page,
My name is Koen and I am a year 7 kid who lives in North Yorkshire. I've grown up in this area and played at many local playgrounds with my family. I have realised that while I could play and have a good time in our playgrounds, that some kids may not have had the opportunity like me to do that. This seems very unfair to me as every kid should be able to go to a playground and have fun without being excluded from social activities.
I visited multiple of my local playgrounds and found out that there was no accessible equipment for disabled people! Or, maybe the playground had one piece that was accessible but it was always the exact same swing!
I've emailed local councillors to know if there are any programs towards tackling this problem. I haven't heard back yet.
While waiting for a response, I've decided to help raise money for a local disability charity called Henshaw's.
Supporting people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to go beyond expectations.
I really like Henshaw's because they help people who need help with employment, education, supported living and help everyone make friends at social activities.
Thank you for thinking about donating,
Koen
