Story
We all know somebody who's been affected by Alzheimer’s disease / Dementia. Whether that be diagnosed with the disease themselves, a diagnosis of a loved one or friend, or knowing somebody who's lived/living with an Alzheimers sufferer, and the heartbreak the family goes through watching their loved ones gradually disappearing before their eyes.
1 in 3 people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime.
Alzheimer’s has affected my family for many years and continues to do so. My dad, Pete Hassall, was diagnosed with Alzheimers when he was 61 years old. We noticed dad was having memory problems when he was in his late 50's. Following assessments, the doctor's said that he was too young to be diagnosed with Alzheimers, so they would assess him again in 12 months time. Fast forward 1 year, the follow up assessment confirmed that my dad had Alzheimers and it had progressed too far for them to slow it down with medication. My dad has been in a nursing home since summer 2024 as he is unable to complete simple tasks by himself such as eating, drinking and putting a sentence together.
I would like to raise as much money for this charity as possible as my grandad (my dad's dad) also suffered with Alzheimers and passed away in the early 1990's, so all the funds raised will be a huge help to fight against this horrible disease.
