Story
On the 23rd March 2024 it will be three years since I lost my wonderful mum to cancer.
She tried hard to fight the terrible disease but sadly it was too advanced to win the battle. One thing that I had never truly appreciated until mum started this journey, was how indiscriminate cancer is. Whilst sat in the chemotherapy lounge with mum, it highlighted that it can affect any one of any age. It was this observation that made me want to help in some way. Sadly mum knew that she was not going to get better and consequently she refused some treatments that would have resulted in her losing her hair. She was adamant she wanted to look like Grandma for as long as she could, so her four grandchildren would remember her as she had always been. Always thinking of others, that was Mum.
As marathon running is beyond my capabilities and I don’t have many more talents, I decided to try and help others who may lose their hair to cancer. I embarked on trying to grow my hair long enough to donate to The Little Princess Trust and hopefully raise £500 towards the making of a wig for a young person. For those who know me, I have always had long hair so I am a little nervous about this challenge. However I have enlisted some students at my school to help me with the process, so what could go wrong!? On Thursday 21st March my hair will be 12 inch shorter and I hope my donation can help finalise a much needed wig for a young person.
The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as Alopecia.
The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.
The Little Princess Trust relies solely on the generosity of its wonderful supporters who help the charity give Hair and Hope to so many children and young people with cancer each year.
Thanks in advance for your donations, I know mum would be proud of my efforts and will be looking down with pride xxx
