Let’s together help Alfie Beat Neuroblastoma 💙

During another routine MRI scan in Dec 2011 the doctors found a query with the result. This t resulted in Alfie having more scans and tests. Although not diagnosed as a relapse of neuroblastoma, doctors decided Alfie needed to start intense chemotherapy to shrink the thickening area they found near Alfies spine and kidneys. Unfortunately chemotherapy didn't shrink it enough but confirmed that it was Relapse of neuroblastoma. All I want is for my 15 year old boy to enjoy the rest of his life and try and get rid of this disease once and for all.Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my beautiful boy, anything you can do would be greatly appreciated. We've almost reached £100,000

Update on Alfie from beginning of December from Alfie’s mum Shelley

Two weeks ago we went to the marsden to meet with Alfie consultant.. she discussed Alfie’s options and we was sent home to decide but we had both made our minds up as soon as we had got in the car. I knew what option Alfie would pick and it’s the same option that I chose.

The options were

1… 5 days of IV chemo as an Outpaitent.. long days 9-5 being pumped with fluids.

2… do oral chemo at home for 21 days then rest for two weeks

3… do nothing.

Option 1 is our last plan of action..

Option 2 is our best option..

Option 3 is not on our list…

We went back to the marsden on Friday to sign the consent forms for option 2 and to collect his medication.

He started chemo on Monday. Of course it come with some possible side affects that we have to keep an eye out for.. one being that he had that little problem last year when he was peeing blood.. this chemo can irritate the bladder and could cause bleeding. He has also been put under very strict orders to drink 2 litres of fluids a day to make sure that he’s flushing everything through to try and avoid the bladder irritation 😬

So far he’s done so good, taking tablets and drinking enough fluids. They have said that he will loose his hair but for now it’s still firmly in place.

If Alfie copes well with this chemo we could have the potential to do a couple of cycles then rescan. But just incase we have signed consent forms to commence iv chemo in January.

Alfie will need to attend royal surrey weekly for bloods.. transfusions could be needed so best to keep an eye on his blood counts.
