Story

🚨 24-Hour Fitness Challenge – 5th July 2025 🚨

Stations 11 ➡️ 09 ➡️ 10

On Saturday 5th July 2025, I’ll be taking on a 24-hour fitness challenge in support of two vital charities that have a deeply personal significance to me. Every hour, on the hour, I will complete a workout – varying in length and intensity – at Station 11 Hicksgate, before running in full fire kit to Station 09 Temple, then on to Station 10 Kingswood, and repeating the process every hour for a full 24 hours.

This challenge is open to all fire service personnel and friends and family – I welcome anyone to join me for a workout or a leg of the run, as we unite for two important causes.

💚 Why I’m Doing This

Over the past year, my mother has bravely battled cancer. Throughout this journey, I’ve become acutely aware of the vital support provided by cancer charities – and how essential these services are for countless families, including many of our own colleagues.

Recent research by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has brought to light the increased risk firefighters face from occupational cancers:

- 3.8x more likely to develop prostate cancer

- 3.17x more likely to develop leukaemia

- 2.42x more likely to develop oesophageal cancer

- 6.37x higher risk when the cancer’s origin is unknown

These numbers are not just statistics – they are a wake-up call. Through this challenge, I hope to:

✅ Raise awareness of occupational cancer risks

✅ Highlight the importance of decontamination protocols

✅ Raise funds for two essential cancer-related charities

🔥 How You Can Get Involved

- Join me for a workout or a run

- Help spread the word

- Donate – every contribution makes a difference

Let’s stand together in support of our families, friends, and fire service community. This is more than just a physical challenge – it’s a statement of solidarity, strength, and care.

Stay safe,

Krissy
